Interpreter I have appointed, provisionally and subject to Your Lordship's approval, Mr. Li Hongmi, at present Acting second Clerk at the Magistracy. One of the most urgent wants of the Supreme Court is an Interpreter for the Swatow and Amoy dialects. The salary formerly attached to it was $300 per annum, and I do not propose increasing it, as Mr McBean, whom I have appointed provisionally and subject to Your Lordship's approval, holds the post of Bailiff and Assistant Usher, for which he receives a salary of $400 a year, besides fees, which amount on average to about $60 a month. This would make his total emoluments equal to $1020 per annum.
